If you can swallow smaller pills ducolax works WONDERS and when I had my colonoscopy I took 2 and it was …. well… for lack of better words… “smooth sailing” from there! If you can’t I am sure your local pharmacy has laxatives that are in liquid form, ask the pharmacist!

I saw this on Medical News Today:”According to Heinz-Josef Lenz, MD, associate director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program at the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, the general recommendation for a baseline colonoscopy is beginning at age 50 and thereafter every three to five years.”In your grandmother’s case, it must have been due to her advanced age that another one was recommended after 10 years. The procedure itself is pretty stressful so I can imagine that it should be done as frequently as warranted but not too frequent to cause unnecessary morbidity.

This is not something to take, but have you tried walking? Not anything strenuous, but a leisurely 15 minute stroll may help things work themselves out.

Nope ,,they just go from one butt to the nextLOLAre you serious. It is cleaned after every procedure using a strong chemical agent that cleans and disinfects it.

I’ve never had a colonoscopy, but my wife has had several. Seems to me that she was in the bathroom about every 1/2 hour. It’s a major disruption of a normal life. And that gallon of laxative…..she says it’s absolutely horrible!!!

The Anesthesia is not the problem. Something is wrong with the digestive tract. Call your doctor ASAP. I usually go within a day or two of having this done.

The doctor sticks their finger inside the rectum when they lubricate the anus prior to the insertion of the colonoscope. At this time the doctor’s finger can and should feel the prostate which is just inside the anus. At this time the doctor can determine the size and firmness of the prostate. Explain this to your dad for father’s day. He’ll be impressed.

Having a colonoscopy 17 months ago would not detect cancer that might be microscopic or became cancer at 12 months. Cancer is a progressive disease which means that it starts out as a single microscopic cell that begins to grow uncontrollably. A cancer tumor can grow in as little as 28 days . . . which means unless you have the colonoscopy at eactly the right time when a cancer is growing . . it can easily be missed. The reason I know this is because my son has a stage IV abdominal sarcoma that can grow rapidly within that 28 day period. Cancer growth is not at all predictable . . some can grow rapidly and some will take years to appear. If you have an aggressive colon cancer it can grow fast and become larger in a month or two. Which really means that 17 months is a long, long time in the cancer world . . ancient really, meaning that you need a new colonscopy if anything at all seems suspicious. The old test is just that . . . old news now, because many things can change in a few months including a new cancer. The reason that cancer patients have a CT or PET scan every three months is to track whether the cancer is growing or not.It is not at all weird that you might have been ‘normal’ a year and a half ago and now you might have cancer. This happens all the time. The good part is that you do have records of the colonoscopy from a year or more ago and the doctor will be able to compare the results with what is happening now. Here is an illustration of the stages in colon cancer. Please note how tiny the cancer is in stage I and how difficult it would be to detect. Keep in mind that one microscopic malignant cell can occur at ANY time . . and remain dormant for an undetermined amount of time . . and than suddently start growing. Cancer is a deceptive disease. Do not underestimate it.Illustration: The stages of colon cancerhttp://www.meb.uni-bonn.de/cancer.gov/Media/CDR0000415501.jpgBest wishes to you.

Tell your doctor. It’s up to him/her when he wants to do the scan.

My solution was to tell my doctor I wasn’t going to drink it and that she needed to find me an alternative. She laughed and said yeah a lot of people refuse it. She provided me with several other less repulsive alternatives.

Yes, you can basically follow the same prep. My husband had to get a colonoscopy and he prepped the same way that I do for my colon cleansing pills.

Yes, follow up with your gastroenterologist. He/she should know you are still seeing symptoms of something abnormal. I’m wondering if you have hemorrhoids. Another possibility is ulcer, happening further up the line, like in your stomach. You should not have blood in your stools. If you are losing alot of blood you may be experiencing anemia, get your blood checked if you haven’t already.I am a colon cancer survivor, the tumor was found during a colonoscopy as I searched for the reason for my symptoms — one of which was occult (not visible to the naked eye, hidden) blood in my stool.
